Adult Fiction
The Authors' Agent accepts very few new fiction clients each year, since the publishing opportunities available for first time fiction writers are strictly limited. It is therefore important that you contact The Authors' Agent by email, prior to lodging a submission. Provided the The Authors' Agent agrees to consider your work, the following will be required:
- an outline
- a brief (one page) synopsis of the plot;
- word extent;
- unique selling points;
- description of the target market;
- names of similar books and how your book would be different and better - eg if you liked reading XXXX then you'd love this;
- brief bio of yourself, including titles of any previously published works, any successful entries in writing competitions, other writing experience, useful media contacts, etc.
- three to four sample chapters or 25 000 words (whichever is the greater).

Note to first-time fiction writers
Finding a publisher is a lengthy process and may require several significant rewrites of your work. The agency will not submit fiction manuscripts to publishers unless the work is of the highest standard, since writers usually have only one chance to impress publishers and redrafts are unlikely to be read.
The Authors' Agent is unable to provide detailed editorial feedback on submissions. It is therefore highly recommended that you commission a manuscript appraisal before sending us your submission. There are a number of companies offering this service. The feedback you will obtain from the appraisal could help you improve your manuscript and enhance your chances of being accepted as a client.
