Peter Meares

Based in Brisbane, Peter Meares has been one of our leading sports commentators for the past 40 years. Best known for his hosting of the popular Brisbane Commonwealth Games in 1982 with the ABC, Peter has been a familiar face on Australian television. While at the ABC, Peter called Test Cricket, Rugby League and Union, Davis Cup tennis and golf, as well as hosting the popular Saturday night 'Sports Review' for 17 years.

After switching to commercial television with Channel 7, Peter hosted 'Sportscene' on Sundays, and presented the sport on 7 Nightly News for 12 years. He covered the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 and four more Commonwealth Games, as well as calling network Basketball and Tennis. He's called almost every popular sport, and a few exotic ones, like Korfball and Sepak Takraw, as well!

All Piss and Wind

Peter won many media awards, and was made an Advance Australia Ambassador for services to sport in 1983. Now freelance, Peter is calling sport on Pay Television, runs a sports production company, Mearesport, and is in demand on the speaking circuit. He is a regular on ABC Radio and has written two books: Legends of Australian Sport — The Inside Story (2003) and Wallaby Legends with Prof Max Howell (2005). His latest book All Piss and Wind was published in September 2008 by ABC Books.
