Dr Trevor Beard

Based in Hobart, Dr Trevor C Beard was for many years in general practice. In his later career with the Australian Department of Health in Canberra he developed a special interest in salt as a public health issue. He is one of two co-authors of the salt guideline in the Australian Dietary Guidelines and a foundation member Salt Matters coverof the Australian Division of World Action on Salt and Health (AWASH). In active retirement he is a Senior Research Fellow at the Menzies Centre for Population Health Research at the University of Tasmania, where he heads the 'Salt Skip Program'. He is an Honorary Life Member of the Australian Nutrition Foundation. In 2006 Dr Beard was elected Senior Australian of the Year for Tasmania. His book Salt Matters: the Killer Condiment is published by Hachette Australia.
